Team Rio :: Team Rio Kids

A main goal of Team Rio Running and Walking for Big Brothers Big Sisters is to promote health and fitness to local kids. The youth team, TEAM RIO KIDS, partners with local schools to teach and encourage a healthier lifestyle and assist the kids with training for the Kids Marathon. Team Rio Kids will train within their respective schools or with their parents to complete 25.2 miles prior to April 24th when they will complete the last mile of the actual course and cross the official Country Music Marathon finish line. SGT Ken, Team Rio Kids Coach, provides training schedules and health tips in his weekly email newsletters titled, "SGT Ken Says."

Hi. My name is Christina. My Big Sister Michelle and I are trainin

g to run the Country Music Marathon this year. Well, actually, I am running the Country Music KIDS Marathon and Michelle is running the Country Music 1/2 Marathon.

We are part of Team Rio, an amazing group of grown-ups that train together to run or walk and raise money so that other kids who are waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister can have one. There are kids, too, like me running during school and after class to help learn about exercise and physical fitness rather than watching TV or playing on the computer.

I can tell you that having Michelle in my life has made a big difference in how I see the world... I'm not as shy, I can talk to my teachers and other grown-ups, and my grades are even better in school. Everyone should have a Big Sister like Michelle in their life, too, so please help me help them!

It's doesn't take a lot - $5, $10, every little bit helps... and together we can really change how kids are growing up in Middle Tennessee.
